I was sent this in an email:
The Inquisitive Mind Of A Child Author unknown
Why are they selling poppies, Mummy? Selling poppies in town today. The poppies, child, are flowers of love. For the men who marched away, But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy? Why not a beautiful rose? Because, my child, men fought and died, In the fields where the poppies grow. But why are the poppies so red, Mummy? Why are the poppies so red? Red is the colour of blood, my child. The blood that our soldiers shed. The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy. Why does it have to be black? Black, my child, is the symbol of grief. For the men who never came back. But why. Mummy, are you crying so? Your tears are giving you pain. My tears are my fears for you, my child, For the world is forgetting again.Current Location: Library Current Mood: thoughtful

| Jun. 26th, 2008 10:03 am The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicise those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. 4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;)

28/100. Not bad I guess. Most of the books I read are crime/thriller ones, so it's not really surprising that there're loads of books that I haven't read on this list XD
I know it's each to their own, but why is Catch 22 higher than Birdsong??? I've struggled to read half of Catch 22 and probably won't bother with the rest of it. It just seems to be a ridiculously long book about nothing in particular. Every chapter starts with something new and doesn't really follow on from the previous one, and all the characters are a bunch of idiots. If someone else has read and enjoyed it, please feel free to correct me. Current Mood: okay

| Jun. 10th, 2008 05:10 pm It has taken me forever and a day to upload my photos because my internet is being reeeaaally temperamental at the moment…as in, keeps kicking me offline every few minutes for no apparent reason >: Ghey.
Anyways, I’ve had a very eventful few days; the most exciting of which however was Sunday’s Somme Trip, aka a busy day traipsing around World War One memorials in France :3 Some people at my mum’s work were organising it and she mentioned it to me “to see if I was interested in going”. What a silly question XD
So, yeah. Had to get up at 6am to go and get the coach to get the train (lol complicated) to get to Calais which wasn’t so much fun. You could tell how tired I was though, as I slept for a little while on the way to the first memorial, as well as at the end of the day on the way back. I can never sleep on coaches as they’re so uncomfortable :O
Anyways, onto my day in pictures… (and writing, of course)

I also had a very strange dream Sunday night with Rufus, Reno and Elena in it. I’m sure there was more to it then this, but what I remember is that in the dream, I ‘was’ Elena, so I was seeing what was happening from her viewpoint. There was a huge lake or something, which I think was semi-frozen over, and there was a girl that Reno really fancied and who was a good friend of his drowning right in the middle, and he wanted to go and rescue her but Rufus wouldn’t let him. I/Elena didn’t hear the exact reason, but I think it was because he wanted the Turks for something else. Anyway needless to say Reno was not a happy bunny about that and got into an argument with Rufus about it, all the while trying to get to the girl. Him and Rufus got into a bit of a fight, with Reno trying to push past him to get to the lake and Rufus trying to keep him back. While this was going on, I/Elena had climbed into the back of a truck which the Turks had been using to transport some stuff and grabbed a gun, then got out again. Rufus ended up shooting Reno, and I’m not sure why but I/Elena shot my/herself, too. To prove a point, maybe? Although what that point was I have no idea. Anyway then I woke up. Weird dream was very weird. Current Mood: nostalgic Current Music: Tribute - Tenacious D

| Jun. 3rd, 2008 12:58 pm ( Vampire Knight, ep. 9 )
^ Cut for spoilers ^^
Don't really have much to do today. Been into town already to get the face paint for tonight, which means I have everything I need, just gotta shower at some point. Had a nice chat with one of the security guys while I was sorting out my washing. It was a bit weird, he was like, cleaning the washing machines and tumble dryers or something when I went down to get my clothes out of the dryer, and he was like "lol don't worry, your clothes are still there, no one's touched them!" And then he was asking me if I'd finished with uni, and what my plans were, and if I'd be coming back to stay here again next year. Bless.
Oh yeah, speaking of, kinda. To those of you that I gave my Leicester address to this year, PLEASE GET RID OF IT. I won't be living at that address anymore, so. XD Current Mood: okay Current Music: Still Doll - Wakeshima Kanon

| Jun. 2nd, 2008 07:23 pm I am currently a walking perfume advert >:
I didn't realise that convincing my friend to come shopping with me today would result in her detirmined to make me more 'girly' by looking at make up and trying to find a perfume that I like.
It all started 'cause she wanted to go into one of the perfume shops, and I was just like "eh, I don't really wear perfume..." and she was all "D: D: D: WHAT DO YOU MEAN. RIGHT. WE ARE FINDING ONE YOU LIKE AND YOU WILL WEAR IT." Sooo we went into Debenhams and proceeded to spray a bazillion tester perfumes on me to see if I liked them. So that the scents didn't get mixed up, each one got sprayed at different points up my arm, on my hands, wrists, and my friend. Even after a shower I still smeeeeellll.
I need to sneeze. The perfumey smell is tickling my nose, but the sneeze is stuck or something. Idk. I'M ALLERGIC TO MYSELF RIGHT NOW D: D: D:
On the plus side, I got all my green clothes for tomorrow's party \o/ However I did forget to get any green face paint, a++. Current Mood: okay Current Music: Concerning Hobbits - LotR OST

I got home to find an email from Facebook, saying that Higgy had written on my wall. I thought, aww how nice to hear from her! But then. BUT THEN. "[stalky ginger] says fix ur fone". ;_; WRY YOU BETRAY ME LIKE THIS, HIGGY. Oh well. She also told me to write about bumsex, as it will get me good marks. o_O I'm not sure what she thinks I'm studying, but naymind.
And to end this ridiculously long post, a couple of Vampire Knight AMVs that Olivia made! They were a joint effort, in that I suggested some songs/spammed her with music and audio clips and told her to include them XD They make me lol, anyway.

| May. 7th, 2008 06:19 pm You know why it's so confusing? Because it's ROUND. God, I'm made of fail today XDDDD Srsly, "My name's [Laney], I'm a tit" has never been more true!!
Firstly... Laney: [wakes up] Ooh, it's warm and sunny and I have to go out, so I'll wear something summery ^^ [gets dressed] ... [looks down at self: black boots, black tights, black skirt, black top] HMM. I'M DOING IT WRONG >:
lolololol I r smrt. So I put on a lighter top, yay me.
Then I went to meet my friends as we were going to the cinema. We ended up going to Morrisons for some yummy yummy food, and I got the kid's meal spag bol, which came with some COOL FREE STUFF. ie a puzzle and an activity book. I was like woooow this'll be fun! The puzzle? Has nine pieces, and is round. No problem, right? WROOOONG. I got the eight 'edge' pieces connected (with only one error which I quickly corrected >_>) and then I put the middle bit in and was all YAAAAY I DID IT! And my friend just facepalmed at me, then I realised I'd put the middle bit in round the wrong way. Dear god woman. So we all had a good laugh at that, and my friend made me re-enact it so she could record it on her phone. >:
Next up, the activity book! It's a 'Bee Movie' one, btw. Anyway page one was a "This book belongs to..." page, so I filled in the info, then had to draw a picture of myself! Because of the theme of the booklet, I decided to draw myself surrounded by bees, only when I tried to write "I'M COVERED IN BEES" next to it, I misspelt covered. So now I am coverered in bees. >_>
Page two! Some sums, which after I flailed at a bit, realised I could actually do. Nothing particularly lulz-worthy here. Page three! It's one of those maze things where the lines are all woven together and you have to pick the right path to get the centre. There are four to choose from, the first two I picked were the wrong ones >: Page four! This was a spelling bee thing, but as I haven't seen The Bee Movie and therefore didn't know the characters names, I couldn't do. Page five! Lol sudoku. I didn't even attempt this one, but my friend completed it in about 20 seconds. Sigh. Page six! "Which two pictures of [bee character] are identical?" YAY I CAN DO THIS ONE! --Or not. Clever me picked the one that had an arm missing, before I realised I'd got it wrong. Cleverrrr Laney. Page seven and eight! Hangman. Now it's already been established that I suck at this game (among others), but I did the first one pretty easily, and the second one was _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _. I knew it was "New [something] City" as I'd already seen somewhere that that was the name of the place, and eventually I guessed NEW / _IVE / CITY. So then I started going through the letters I hadn't guessed, trying to work out what the last letter could be: "a-ive...bive...dive" (lost a life after guessing 'd'), "five...give" (which I pronounced guy-ve, and it's only now that I've realised 'give' is a word in its own right...), "hi---OH. Hive! ...Of course it's hive, they're bees." ¬_¬ Page nine! "Shadow challenge". There's a picture of one of the characters, then four 'shadows', and the idea is to guess which shadow picture is identical to the proper one. I, once again, picked the wrong one (ie, the shadow bee that HAD A FREAKING LEG MISSING. How did I not realise!?!?) and it was only when my friend was practically headdesked that I was like "--ohhh. Heh, oops?" Page ten! Odd one out. This one took me forever, because I just could not see which picture was different. I got it eventually though! :3 Page eleven! A game of squares. I lost by two ;~; Page twelve! "Magnified Match: which one of these magnified images does not come from the picture below?" I got this one in like, 2 seconds. My friends nearly died of shock. Page thirteen! More sums. ;_; First one: 4-2+3=? My original answer? 9. BUT I MISREAD THE QUESTION. I THOUGHT IT WAS ALL ADDITION. My stupidity, it burns.
Onto the cinema. We're all pretty hyper by now; my friends mostly couldn't stop laughing at my expense. They were in awe that all the stupid stuff I'd done/said wasn't an act. H was just like, "how did you get into university!?" lololol. So anyway, we find our screen (we went to see Nim's Island, btw. It's pretty good ^^), and for some reason the lights weren't on, and H was all "lol are we the only ones in here?" so I went, "hellooooo?" And we all laughed etc. Turned out there were some other people in there though, oops >_> So anyway we find our seats, sit down, start watching the ads...and you know when an add finishes and for a second there's complete silence? Well as luck would have it I crunched my popcorn in that second of silence (epic timing, couldn't have done it if I'd tried) which gave H and I the giggles for aaages. a++
All in all it was a pretty epic day.
tldr; I'M THE VILLAGE FUCKING IDIOT. AND I LIVE IN A CITY. Even the eight ball says I'm a tard...
EDIT: OH OH I've just remembered! At the cinema, I saw a promotional cardboard cut-out thing for a third Ice Age movie!! \o/ With dinosaurs, woot! I love the way my brain works: watching Vampire Knight 5 subs --> Yuuki mentions liking parfait --> "hell no I don't like no parfait!" --> shrek --> kids films I like --> Ice Age --> ICE AGE 3. lololol. | Apr. 30th, 2008 11:55 am Why I should never go to bed without having straightened my hair: when I woke up this morning the front of my parting had decided to move over more, giving me a sort of emo fringe, and the ends of my hair are flicking up. Clearly my hair has a sekrit ambition to be just like Allelujah's. If Allelujah had a more 70s hairstyle. Only of course it then started raining when I walked into town, so now I look like 70s-Allelujah-who-stuck-a-fork-in-a-plug-socket.

| Apr. 24th, 2008 04:47 pm In my Exploring Creative Writing workshop today (last one of the year, woop woop!) we were discussing the reflective commentaries that we have to write at the end of our assignments. Basically the tutor gets really bored reading essays explaining why we’ve written our stuff in certain ways etc, so she decided to make us practise writing our commentary in a particular genre (such as horror, action, biography, comedy, parody etc). To start with I was just like whaaaat and didn’t have a clue what to write, but then I had this genius idea...
***
“Allelujah Haptism!” The canteen fell silent as Tieria Erde stormed through the double doors, a wad of paper clutched in his hand. He marched over to the table where his team mates had been sitting enjoying their lunch and glared down at the young man with the emo fringe.
“Y-yes?”
“What do you call this!?” The stack of paper, held together only by a staple, was thrown onto the table.
Allelujah blinked and glanced down at it. “…That’s my reflective commentary I submitted to Veda,” he explained slowly, as though wondering if this was a trick question.
“You call that a reflective commentary!?” Tieria planted his hands on his hips huffily. “Where is your explanation of the editing process of our plan?” He shot a dirty look in Setsuna’s direction; the youngest Meister had once again been the reason for the necessary changes made to their original plan. Setsuna ignored him, like he usually did, and carried on eating. Tieria didn’t make further comments on that though; all of his attention was on Allelujah and his failure of an essay.
“You didn’t even bother to explain the research we had to undertake!”
Allelujah slowly shrunk down further and further in his seat, trying to escape Tieria’s wrath. He gazed at the others imploringly, willing them to help him.
“I suppose we should be glad that you at least remembered to include an evaluation of what we achieved, but you, Allelujah Haptism,” Tieria leant forward, his hands resting on the table so he could get right in Allelujah’s face. “You are not fit to write a reflective commentary!”

| Apr. 21st, 2008 08:27 pm Another productive day ^^ Mostly it was spent giving varying degrees of advice on different matters, which is interesting seeing as I'm not too good at that.
On a more interesting note, I introduced a friend to the joy that is Gundam 00! ^_^ She is watching the first episode now, so hopefully she'll like it. She likes the opening theme song anyway, if that counts to anything XD [EDIT: She's watched all of ep.1 and is "intrigued". On to episode 2!!] The first thing she said about it though was "lol this reminds me of the Terminator prologue". o_O Right. And she thinks that the "robots" look like Transformers. Che.
And being the genius that she is, she found an awesome site where you can watch all the episodes:

| Apr. 15th, 2008 05:30 pm So I'm nearly done with my assignments! .....Kinda. I finished my poetry essay at the weekend and handed it in yesterday, which was a nice feeling. It was also nice to not be up until the early hours of the morning it's due in trying to finish it, which is what I usually end up doing XD;; I've got just under 1000 words left to write for my Novel essay, which hopefully I can get done tonight. Hopefully. And then I'll have a couple of days to do my Writing Identity assignment. I'm not starting to panic about any of it yet - I don't know if that's a good thing or not. If I remain laid back about it now, I'm more likely to procrastinate and end up really panicky Thursday night. :/ Oh well, we'll see~
W.I. workshop was amusing again this afternoon. One guy was reading out an extract from his piece, and it was pretty much one big unintentional innuendo. The laughs started at the line, "his right hand rested where it always was. On his gun." aaaand just went down hill from there. Lololol, he was not impressed by our snickering. Oh also, when someone else was pitching her idea for her assignment, my friend's phone went off, and her ringtone is Caramelldansen. It was sooo funny, everyone was quiet listening to the girl speak, and then suddenly, "o-o-oa-oa~" XDDDDD
I-I'm kind of intimidated by the sudden influx of FFVII characters over at DDD :| I'm more nervous about playing Elena now than I was when I first picked her up, because I don't know who most of the characters are, and I don't know if Elena would know them/know anything about them/how she would react to them. Eek.
Aaaaand to end this rather rambly post, some quizzes!

Edit: I keep going to type "Elena" instead of "Esther" in my essay :/ Get out of my mind!! Current Mood: working

| Jan. 8th, 2008 05:21 pm I love my Writing Identity workshop so much, I really do. XD That class is just...insane.
I yoinked this idea from halfling_rogue - here are some quotes from class today that I found amusing, just thought I'd share them with my flist, in case you need a laugh~
- "Just piss your pants, it's what writers do!"
- "I'm small and limber...like a rodent." "I'd like to see a rodent with Dan's hair." (He has a hobbit-like 'fro, fyi)
- "I like your earrings. I want to eat them."
- "I can totally relate, I've often had problems with crabs."
- "...glistening like wet nipples in the sunlight."
This last one needs a bit of explanation; our usual lecturer is still ill so for the next 4 weeks we have an american lady taking our class and I think we've absolutely terrified her already, lol welcome to England. So yeah, she's the one that's asking the first question, plus it's her talking 3rd, again:
- [Following a piece on someone's 18th birthday] "Is 18 the legal age for drinking here then?" [joking] "Hasn't it dropped to like, 12 now!?" "...Oh. I've seen a group of kids hanging around outside where I live and they look like they're drinking and smoking-" "We call them...Chavs. I think Attenborough's doing a documentary on them soon, isn't he?" | Jan. 3rd, 2008 11:40 am Anyone want a cat? Mine are driving me nuts and I'm about ready to drop kick some of them off a cliff :/ Lol. Oh, 0bratja0, I have taken some pictures of them to show you, but I think I left the cable that connects my camera to my laptop in my room at uni LIKE ONLY I COULD. *facepalm* So yeah, hopefully I'll post them next week at some point XD;;
Mrrr. It's so cold, and I have to go sort the washing out. I would much rather go back to bed @_@
Oh and I had a really random dream last night, in which a friend from primary school who I haven't seen in about 8 years told me what I could wear to my flatmate's 90's themed birthday party thing. Thank you, dream!Richard.
EDIT: I was just reading an article on the yahoo site that said "Snow is falling across some parts of the UK, with more expected across much of England, Scotland and Wales" and was thinking to myself, "lol it'll never snow here" when what happens? I look out the window and see that it is, indeed, snowing. :| Gtfo, snow. No wonder it's so cold :O Current Mood: sleepy

| Jan. 2nd, 2008 10:43 am First post of '08, woop woop~ I thought now would be a good time to update XD
Okay so. My Christmas was alright. Nothing that brilliant, but then it rarely is anymore, what with the trying to work out whose house I'm meant to be at when. But yeah. It was a nice quiet day, and I pretty much just spent the whole day laying on my dad's sofa, watching my new DVDs or reading XD
I've seen...most of the family now. Obviously none on my dad's side 'cause they live too far away, but everyone else apart from one or two stray cousins I have seen, which is good. Ellie (who is 7) was so happy to see me that when I went round there yesterday she quite literally attached herself to me and wouldn't get off my lap for at least an hour. D'aww. I've also learnt not to try and argue with a 7year old, because I will not win:
Me: No you Her: No you Me: No you Her: No you Me: No you Her: No you infinity! Me: ...No you infinity squared! Her: No you infinity...circled! Me: ...*does not know how to reply to that*
Lols. Oh and then I went round to morlena's for New Year's Eve as...some people will know. I would like to say that I wasn't actually drunk, but Shiro probably was! Harhar. Chat was fun ^^ Oh and Shiro and I had our usual cracky conversations. Such as discussing Othello(from Demon Ororon) / Sorting Hat OTP XDDD and her asking why her brother had so many guitar picks, as he "only has the one hand!" ILU SHIRO.
Anyways that's all from me. My friend is coming round today with babby so I can see them before going back to uni. YAAAAY BABY. She's like, 5 months old now o_o I hope she's not too mobile, my brother hasn't tidied away his Wii or anything and I don't want her to hurt herself D: Current Mood: happy
